1 x 75cl. The producer is from a 6.6 ha vineyard, located around 100 meters above sea level on a hillside near the small village of Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. This 100% Merlot icon was identified by Ornellaia's consultant winemaker, Andre Tchelistcheff, who planted the plot in 1984. The first vintage of Masseto was produced in 1987 and released in 1988 to a great critical reception. Being 100% Merlot, favourable comparisons were quickly made to the likes of Petrus and Le Pin. The vineyards were converted to organic farming in 2012 and the winemaking is rather traditional with the wine maturing for 24 months in new French oak barrels, followed by another 12 months of resting in bottle before it is released.
